The Bickett Hubbells Vote 5.30.2026
It was a complicated process! Yikes! But, as Robert said, a privilege. We honor those that came before us who made it possible. And so grateful for our democracy. We will continue to fight to sustain it.

Book Talk Friday! 5.29.26
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans wins the week! The added bonus to this book is that the main character is a book worm, and she AND her letter recipients often share their current reads in the letters she writes ! (Plus, spoiler alert: She reads Diana Gabaldon!)

Opening the Cabin 2026
We had a lovely time in our little cabin...but we worked very hard too! I really loved the result in the front yard...even knowing that the next time we visit I'll have to weed again! That's entropy for you. But let me tell you about our trip home... We left the cabin at 10:00 a.m. on the dot, hoping to get home at a reasonable time, because the roads are always difficult with Memorial Day traffic. Guess how long it took us? We got home at...7:15 p.m. !!!!!! The traffic has n

Book Review Two-Fer: a Pulitzer Prize & A Memoir!
I keep thinking about the Ishiguro book. There's lots of amazing things about this book. The intricacies of the characters' relationships, the authenticity of their voices, the unique method of narration which uses flashback to inform the forward movement of the narrative. So many good things about this book. So, it might be for you. Let me know if you've read it - and how you thought about it! But honestly, you need to buy the audiobook of Belle Burden's book. It's almost a

Book Review: Three Fun, Light, Fictions. Evanovich, Adams, & Glass
With Adams & Glass I felt like I was in the hands of expert writers. Not so much with the Evanovich book, and yet, I am sure that she is the most experienced writer of the three. Her books are widely read, and at the top of the NY Times Best Seller list, so maybe there was something wrong with me when I read it! You're welcome to try it and see for yourself. Also, if you are a Janet Evanovich fan, let me know! And tell me which book is your favorite. Maybe I just didn't get

Mr. Hubbell @ Latino Talks
Robert and I are avid supporters of Latino Victory, a political action committee with the mission to elect Latino leaders who support progressive policies at all government levels, increase Latino voter participation, and continue to build the Latino political power infraststructure. This was an inspirational event, and made us proud to be part of the support system of this important organization.

Sportsmen's Lodge, Erewhon, & Hoka, Oh My!
I don't know why I was in such a state! The Erewhon abuts an Equinox ( which is a work out studio ) and it felt like everyone there was 20 years younger, and 20 pounds lighter than me! All the ladies were in skimpy work out clothes, holding fancy blended juices, and all the guys were weaing sleeveless tshirts, and tight shorts!!! Oy! Plus the aisles in Erewhon are very, very, narrow, and with all the people, I guess I was just a little claustrophobic, too. Maybe hungry as we

The Devil Wears Prada 2: Flash Review
Two words. Meryl Streep. But honestly, it's twenty years since the first Devil Wears Prada, and everyone looks great! Twenty years! Anne Hathaway is a more mature, but still endearing character, Emily Blunt is fabulous, and surprising! So many famous designers, and others have cameos in this movie - it must have been fun to be on set! But as much as I loved all of that...my favorite parts included Stanley Tucci. His character is more fully developed, more vulnerable, and his

First Birthday Train Cake!
This was actually fun to do! And not difficult, once I figured out the plan. Fondant is not difficult to work with, if you practice a little. The key is using Crisco for the work surface, I have tried corn starch which is also recomended, but found that hard to manage and very drying. EVERYTHING except the moving train and tracks, is from KAKE KREATIONS! Love them! So glad I live near a real cake store!
