"Wallering" is a Southern/Appalachian term (how appropriate since I was in Tennessee!). It means "to roll, lounge, or wiggle around lazily, restlessly, or ungracefully, similar to a pig in mud." In this context, it connotes being upset and sad, and writhing around in bed!!!! As in "taking to the bed!"
I took to the bed after each of my children went away to college. But for this occasion, I didn't just take to the bed, I was wallering in bed!
I can't take credit for the use of this unusual use of diction -- my favorite comedienne, Leanne Morgan uses the word "wallering" a lot - and every time she uses it I laugh. It was the perfect way to describe my acitiviy for the last few days!!!
Thanks to all of you for checking in!
