El Caballero

I can't let this day pass without commenting on the death of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II. Though one may have qualms about the monarchy, there can be no doubt that Elizabeth was a woman of consequence. And oddly enough, my visit to the Country Club today brought this home in an unusual way.

The wall of presidents at the Country Club, all male, made me think about the decisions that our society is still making, decisions that prevent women from being in positions of leadership so that we can know their consequence.

During her reign, Queen Elizabeth was often the only woman in the room, and though she rarely expressed her own opinion, her presence was an important one that spoke loudly.

Thank you, Elizabeth.
