Surprisingly, our favorite site of all the wonderful and interesting places we visited was the Ardoch Roman Fort, which was essentially just ancient earthen work the Romans had created as a defensive strategy during their time in Scotland.
When we visited, the weather was inclement, but beautiful, in its own way, and it felt right to be in that place with the rain, and the wind, knowing that Romans and Scots before us had endured this exact same climate.
Looking back at the centuries of humans that have struggled, hoped, feared, succeeded, and failed, provides a great deal of perspective about living in the 21st century during these difficult times.
