We took our oldest granddaughter, Abby, to Carved at Descano Gardens in La Canada Flintridge, and it was a big success! We went early in the evening, just before it got dark, and that was the right decision. Once it got dark, it got a little scary for Abby, but she was brave, and continued on to the end. You might see her little head peeking out in some of the photos.
Carved is a Pumpkin Carving Botanic Garden delight! It was fun to wander on the garden paths, and see all of the lighted pumpkins, and spooky tableaux. Abby enjoyed the dragon pumpkin, and all of the pumpkin spiders. The hay maze was also a big hit! Once we got to the darkened garden with all the lit pumpkins, things started to get a little spooky!
The actual "carved" pumpkins were unbelievable. I can't imagine how they are done...maybe with a computer or a laser! And one of the things that I really appreciated was the Day of the Dead display, where guests were encouraged to write notes of love and gratitude to those that have gone before. It's always a blessing to say thank you.
