Braving the Mall at Christmas!

I know I said "buy nothing"... but sometimes a girl just has to go shopping!!!

My youngest daughter, Julia, lives in Washington DC, and is visiting for the holidays. She got a fancy new job with the government and needs a few new wardrobe items for her "office attire."

So, instead of heading to Good Will -- I suggested we hit the mall, and have a little Christmas cheer!

Oh What Fun!

We visited the Westfield Topanga Mall in Woodland Hills, a fairly large mall, with a variety of stores with different price points, lots of eateries, and lots of activities. It was fun just to prowl around.

One new thing that we noticed at the mall was that the high end stores, i.e., Gucci, Tiffany, Chanel, and others, had velvet ropes across their doorways. So you either had to have an appointment to shop, or you had to "ask" to be let into the store. I've seen this technique in Beverly Hill stores, but never in stores in the Valley! I assume this is to discourage look-i-loos, and shop lifters, but I didn't like it one bit. I refuse to "ask" if I can buy something -- they should be encouraging me to spend my money, not discouraging me from looking.

Consequently we did a lot less browsing than we might have.

No matter.

We found lots of lovely stuff at Nordstrom and Anthropologie that was affordable and chic -- perfect for office wear. And we didn't have to ask to be let in!!!
