A mice infestation means that I had to disinfect (boil and wash every utensil, every dish, every bowl, EVERTHING!) And I washed the floor at least 4 times! That was not relaxing.
We attempted to block up all the holes that may have allowed mice into the cabin - but I am sure there are some that we did not find. As I have mentioned before, this is a VERY remote spot, and a fairly rustic cabin, so we are used to sharing our space with creatures and insects, but we don't have to like it!
However, in our little enclave of 39 cabins, we weren't the only ones who had mouse problems. Most other cabins also had a mouse invasion. One neighbor went to bed, and found a live little mouse lounging IN THE BED! That would have sent me for a loop. Luckily that didn't happen to us. BUT...
As I was cleaning out the closet (I literally cleaned out EVERY drawer and EVERY closet in addition to all of the kitchen drawers and cabinets, and bathroom closet. Good thing it's a very small house!) Anyways, as I was cleaning out the bedroom closet, I saw on the top shelf our stack of hiking hats. I thought to myself, "maybe we don't need all of those." So, I took the one on top of the pile and tried it on...but when I took it off my head...I saw that there was a mice nest in the crown of the hat ...THAT HAD JUST BEEN ON MY HEAD!!! Now, there were no mice in the hat, so that was a relief, but I was still traumatized, and waited until Robert got home to take down the rest of the hats...and I made him look in my hair for any mice droppings!!!!
Can you guess what Robert did with all of the hiking hats? Yep. He threw them all out.
Ah. The joys of a remote mountain cabin!
