Oooooweeee! Am I proud of myself. Fabulous warty pumpkins for Halloween, with very little water...and unbearable heat! They did take over the garden -- but that's ok -- that didn't happen until after the tomatoes were out. I'm not looking forward to taking all the vines out -- they're kind of prickly, but I bought these garden sleeves that may help in that regard. I'll show them to you. So tonight's the night! Halloween! Can't wait!
A little scattered this year -- and I won't get all my decs out. Shoot! But that's ok, we're enjoying our front yard, and we'll be ready for the trick or treaters for sure! I bought extra special treats this year! Check out the Monday blog to see what we were up to!!!
I spent too much time looking for a dress that I didn't ever buy! But I'm ok with that...I saved lots of money! And, as I said in the video, it's really only about the bride. And, oh, my Julia was such a beautiful, and elegant bride. Nothing else really mattered. I am glad that I was able to debrief for you because you shared the journey with me - so thanks for all your tips, suggestions, and good wishes -- they kept me going during the long adventure! Here's three other vide
Robert and I ducked out of town for a few days after the wedding, to relax, and rejuvenate before beginning again -- and before we start our holiday partying! We did lots of nothing, and only what we wanted. Hiking, baking, reading, walking, chatting. Sometimes I am surprised that Robert and I never get tired of spending time together...after all of our years of marriage. It's one of the blessings of our lives. It was my last weekend on the mountain for the season. We have t
It'a hard to believe that our visit to the pumpkin patch was only 1 week ago! And since then...whew! A rehearsal dinner, a wedding, and reception! Next week, I'm going to brag about our Halloween decorations! (Which, by the way, include Robert on the ROOF!!!) Have a great weekend!
Ready to go! The Newlyweds got off to a great start by renting a Dodge Charger for their Honeymoon trek. My mom used to have a 1966 Dodge Charger, and she schlepped lots of teenagers in the back of that car! Plus I remember Robert and me holding hands as we squeezed into the bucket seat in the front of the car next to my mom, the driver! Such fun memories! Julia and Dan were happy campers, happy to be married, happy that the wedding was so beautiful and meaningful, and happy
An absolutely perfect night. Weather? Check. Happy Newlyweds? Check. Great food. Check. Delicious Wedding Cake. Check. AND lots of too fun dancing into the night. But one of the highlights of the evening was sharing the blessed, and joyous event with those that we loved. People who have walked by our side, helped us to raise Julia, and now bore witness to the commitment that she and Dan made to one another. We are so grateful to them. So, this is the last of my three daughte
The nuptials of Julia and Dan were so powerful for us and for those who attended the service. The bride and groom were so earnest, and so committed to this day, and it showed. It was an inspiration for everyone. I, of course, took very few photos, and no video, so most of the content for this vlog is from friends or our professional photographer. Julia and Dan did not want a videographer, so we asked a friend to just take a little video to mark the moment -- and it turned out
Oh! It was such a beautiful day. A perfect day. But there was so much for the memory book, that I just couldn't contain it in one post. So I'm splurging for my Julia -- and there's going to be several wedding posts... This post focuses on the wedding preparations...the nails, the hair, bridesmaids, and the bubbly! We are still buzzing from the lovely moments of Saturday, sharing the nuptials with dear friends and family who attended, and seeing our Julia so happy...it's a dr
Just this tonight. This evening, Robert and I went to a Democratic fundraiser, and both Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden were there! Nancy Pelosi shook the hand of everyone in the room, including me -- and after what I saw today of her leadership during the January 6 insurrection - I am even in more awe of her. This is what I said to her: "I am so grateful for you. You were our commander in chief on January 6th." And because we were not supposed to take pictures, I then asked if s
Angela Lansbury was a legend. And I am missing her. I surprised myself today by my emotional reaction to her death. It felt like someone I knew died. Someone who meant a lot to me. I guess both of those things are true because even though I didn't know her personally, she inhabited my life for a long time...and inspired me, entertained me, and made me proud to be a woman of a certain age. In the video I say that I want my daughter to know that Angela Lansbury could be a role
It was exhausting...but so much fun! We were malling it -- which the littles had never done before. They are both Covid babies so they really haven't been out and about very much. We can probably count on two hands the times they have actually been in stores...so the mall was a big deal! And then the dresses...we had to make sure that 1) they would work for the wedding 2) they would work for the littles 3) the bride would like them 4) the moms of the littles agreed that they
It's the week of the wedding! It seems hard to believe that the big day is almost upon us! Things are falling into place thanks to Julia's excellent organizing..but there are lots of things that are just unpredictable, so we are trying to just live in the moment and be calm about those things that we cannot control. We'll see how much vlogging I am able to do this week..so don't worry if you don't see daily entries. I'll be on wedding duty!
I think it's always a good time to celebrate. And especially when something so special is about to happen. So we had a busy, successful day of wedding planning (fun but exhausting!) and we decided we needed to celebrate! Luckily, Dan, Julia's fiancé, agreed with us! He took us out for our favorite meal: Crab! So generous of him! And particularly generous when you hear how much fresh crab costs these days!! $70.00 a pound! We certainly weren't a cheap date but Dan ha
Julia is beautiful without make up -- but all brides want to be a little glad for their wedding -- and so today was the make up trial for the big day. Plus, I just love being with my Julia, and being happy about the wedding together. Every day we each have jobs to do for the wedding, and Julia has created a wedding calendar that we can review each day as it begins. Today was jam packed! More bridal plans tomorrow!
I want to be clear. I don't have any particular reason to be worried about my mammogram -- but you never know. Just look what happened to Katie Couric. So, I'm ok with allowing myself to be nervous. And I will be glad when I get my results. So it was a good day to treat myself on the way home from the mammogram. (Ugh). And it was way fun (as Cher would say) to see the fountain up close. It is the most famous fountain in Beverly Hills and is called the "electric fountain," at
