Attending a wedding of people that you love makes the world feel like a better place. Despite the world events outside of our little Catskill wedding...inside there was hope, laughter, and the promise of forever. Just what we all needed. Thanks, Sarah and Drew. We love you!
Robert and I attended Sarah and Drew's nuptials (more on that tomorrow!) at an event venue site called Spillian in The Catskills. It was gorgeous! Spillian has a long, illustrious history, and luckily, despite periods of disuse, it has recently been refurbished, and was the perfect wedding venue for our dear Sarah. Spillian was once the former summer home of the Fleischmann family, of Fleischmann's Yeast fame. And it once contained a half dozen mansions for each of the five s
Yup. The thing that we hoped would never happen, happened. Covid came to visit our family. Ugh. Robert and Jackie tested positive for Covid this morning with a PCR test after our visit to the Catskills last weekend. We're hoping that Matt, Abby, and I will avoid it - but who knows. I'm not feeling 100% tonight, but I'm also a hypochondriac, so how I feel is not always completely reliable. Jackie and Robert have moderate symptoms - not as mild as I had hoped. They have fever,
The video is self explanatory. And it's mostly very interesting. Except for one thing. My hair! OMG. It is so wiggy-waggy that I really shouldn't have included it. And I'm mad that Robert let me do a video when I look like I just stuck my finger in a light socket. It's hard enough getting older...but honestly. Here's the thing. I just didn't have time to get into a hairdresser before we left for Sarah and Drew's New York wedding. And I thought to myself..."Oh, I can style it
New Jersey! The Garden State! We're here for the wedding of Jackie's best friend, and also a 4th daughter of the Bickett Hubbell's! The wedding is in the Catskills - (we've never been) -- and we are overnighting here in Hanover near Jackie's in laws. It's so green here! But...Traveling? Ugh. Getting through Airport Security? Ugh .Six hours on a plane with a N-95 mask on? Super Ugh. Through crowded airports? Ugh. Renting a car? Ugh. Driving on unknown interstates? Ugh. I'm ho
I've been watching my garden like a hawk...and worrying a lot. Not that worrying helps any. On the days that I can water, I soak the veg garden, and talk to the little veggies very sweetly. The front yard hasn't really gotten the same treatment, so it's a sad story. I might do a blog on that. But it makes me sad - so I'm not thinking about it right now. Bottom line. I'm going to have lots of fabulous tomatoes. And I'm going to do a taste test for you when they've each ripened
Biff is our son-in-law, our first daughter Jennifer's husband, and Cora's dad! We're lucky to have him in our family! He's a Gemini like me! We were in Shell Beach on his actual birthday so we had to celebrate when we came home. A pool party with the grandchildren, and a taco bar for a double celebration -- Father's Day and Biff's Birthday! (It was no small feat getting that together after a 3+ hour drive home from Shell Beach! Whew!) It was worth it, though. We were so happ
We hadn't been to the ocean in such a long time. I recommend it! It was so refreshing, so entertaining, and very relaxing. It's even relaxing to watch other people relaxing! But the best part was having my Julia home for our family wedding. Enjoying every minute!
We've enjoyed our pool ever since we bought this house in 1989. I never thought that I would be able to afford a house with pool, and so when that became a reality, it honestly felt like dream! Our girls have spent many, many happy hours in the pool, with friends, with each other, playing games, cooling off, and taking swim lessons. I fondly remember sitting in the backyard shade each afternoon watching one or more of them taking a swim lesson, or just enjoying the long hot
So many fun presents - for the garden, the car, the kitchen, and the wardrobe closet! I was completely spoiled! BUT...I'm still in jail. No emails for me for 24 hours. Google thinks I'm a spammer because I sent so many thank you notes! Is etiquette is dead? Ah well. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be sprung, and will be able to send thank you notes to my heart's content!
As they say, "life is full of surprises." This week, thanks God, all of my surprises were good ones! The best surprise was our trip to Angel Stadium on Saturday with my daughter Jackie and my son-in-law, Matt. Matt is a big Mets fan -- and the Angels were playing against the Mets -- so we had to go! Robert spoiled us with the most amazing seats...2 rows from the field just off of first base! The Angels have been in a real rough patch, a 14 game losing streak! Unbelievable for
The Nature Trail in Mineral King is not a very rigorous hike, but it sure is beautiful. It's approximately a 2.5 miles round trip hiking from the Cold Springs campground at about 7500 feet to 7800 feet and the "Big Hike" trailheads of Eagle, Mosquito, and White Chief Lakes. The Nature Trail is well marked, and gentle, and the views are spectacular, so lots of stops on the way. There's alpine views, aspen groves, the east fork of the Kaweah River, shaded copses of pines, meado
Honestly, I laughed so hard when I was filming this, I cried! Here's why. After 40 years of being married, why would Robert ever think that I would take my pants off for a video? I have absolutely no idea. Of course, I wouldn't take my pants off for a video. What was he thinking? Ok. So I just asked him. He said, " I saw you unzipping pants in various parts, and I got worried!" I guess I should be glad that he got worried. Have a great weekend! Don't take your pants off for
66 Years today! June 9th! I'm a birthday kind of girl. I love my birthday. I love celebrating my birthday. I'm not one of those "it's just another day to me" kind of girl. My birthday is a big day...and I wait all year for it roll around. I am always willing to wear birthday buttons, birthday sashes, and even birthday crowns. I'm never embarrassed by it all. It's never too much for the birthday! Truly, I've had some spectacular birthdays in my time. My daughters gave me a su
Whenever you can do something that makes your children think you are a genius...it's a no brainer. This product will do that! I've taken out stubborn stains in some of my favorite garments, and favorite linens, with Soilove...so I know it works. But the reaction of my daughters is the best!
What a privilege to be the caretaker of this gorgeous china. It is stunning. But most importantly, it will provide a link to Jackie and Matt's family history, and will remind them of the importance of family, of breaking bread around table with loved ones, and of continuing to be caretaker of their family legacy. I am so grateful to Donna, Matt's mom, & Jackie's mother in law, and Joan, Matt's grandmother, for thinking of me when they were perplexed about what to do regarding
It's a surprising connection that I have with the Kardashians. You will have to watch the video to find out! But nonetheless, it's always a good party trick when I tell people what it is! Birthday week begins! 66 here I come!
